The core of NHOA Battery Energy Storage System consists in our proprietary power converter products that are developed by the PCS R&D office. We are seeking a PCS R&D engineer to join our PCS R&D team and contribute to enhancing our technological platform.
The selected candidate will become part of the team responsible for the entire process of converter development, starting from the conceptualization, development, prototyping and continuing up to first commissioning of a new product. This involves implementing control strategies, conducting simulations, testing, developing firmware and obtaining certifications.
Our team collaborates closely with other R&D offices to innovate field-oriented functionalities and provide support to Project Engineers and Software teams during the initial commissioning of NHOA power plants worldwide.
The ideal candidate will bring their expertise in leveraging various coding languages with a focus on HDL languages to revolutionize the NHOA technology platform by introducing innovative hardware and firmware solutions.
Tasks and Duties- Define converter topologies through detailed simulation in Matlab Simulink or dedicated software environments.
- Design and develop the control architecture for new PCS products.
- Responsible of the definition of PCS electrical components, including but not limited to power stack components.
- Define the computational and functional requirements of control boards and support control board developments and prototyping.
- Study and simulation of power converter control strategies.
- PCS firmware development and testing through the different validation steps, including simulated environment, Hardware in the loop and real testbench.
- PCS advanced functionalities study and implementation.
- Support during certification process of the product.
- Support during the commissioning of newly released products.
- Master’s degree in one of the following:
o Electrical engineering
o Electronics engineering
o Automation and Control Engineering
o Computer Science and Engineering- Knowledge of different coding languages (C++, Matlab, Simulink, Javascript, Python).
- Experience in coding with programming languages HDL for SoC
- Good communication skills both in English and Italian
- Experience in inverter modelling
Nice to have:
- Experience in coding with programming languages C for microcontroller ST technology
- Experience with ethernet interface on ST microprocessors
- Familiar with HIL tools, such as: RTDS, Typhoon, OPAL-RT.
- Backgrounds in control schemes of synchronous generator and inverter-based resources, including familiarity with grid forming operation.
- Experience in Linux OS
Location: Hybrid remote and Head Quarter in Milan (Piazzale Lodi) or Cosio Valtellino.
